“I painted a lighted pathway with ridges and bumps along the way. The ridges move in one direction, reflecting time. The bumps in the pathway are the blemishes from the process of creation – in this work of art and within life. The background is black and rough textured to indicate the abyss of this world in contrast to the light of our journey. Everyone’s journey is a pathway of light, moving in and out of each other’s lives. The collaged faces are of my fellow TUE studio artists. I designed their faces to look in the same direction along with mine looking in both directions to convey the idea that while we are together, we are all on separate journeys. I chose to collage our faces to show that all the little pieces mended together make a whole, and as we walk along our own path, we carry pieces of each other along with us. Those are the pieces that challenged us, help us grow, loved us, rejected us, lifted us up, or walked alongside us. All life’s experiences make us who we are.”

Artist Statement

“As an Artist, my themes are based on typical life encounters – everyday items, scenes, and scenarios. I feel my art represents the light in life. My faith allows me to see the good, comfort, and joy in life and be present in the here and now.

The emotions I feel, in reaction or reflection, going through everyday life, are often where I get my greatest inspiration. My goal is to capture that within my art.

I do a lot of collage, but I also enjoy sketching and painting. Whichever medium I choose. I treat it like a puzzle. piecing the parts of the whole together, placing and replacing until it feels complete. I think my art – and my process – is an allegory for life and how I approach it. I’m always learning, shifting, and changing for the better towards a whole “me” while enjoying exactly where I am in the present.

My art can represent something totally different for you, and my genuine hope is that something meaningful comes to you from viewing my art.”
