ABOUT

Born in Virginia and spending much of his youth in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Mr. Keith Newby emerged from modest beginnings. From an early age, he was captivated by sketching angles and shapes, nurturing a dream of becoming an architect. In his early adult years, he dedicated himself to Bible study and teaching. After marrying his wife Rebecca, the couple relocated to Dothan, Alabama, in the late 1960s to pursue their ministry and raise their children, Seth and Judith.

Though his professional path was rooted in ministry, Newby’s passion for painting remained a significant part of his life. Encouraged by his wife, he continued to develop his skills, particularly in watercolor. Over time, he transitioned from a hobbyist to an active participant in the watercolor community, showcasing his work at various local art festivals and events.

With a career spanning over four decades, Mr. Newby has earned recognition both locally and nationally for his depictions of Southern landscapes and people. His artwork captures the essence of the South, portraying not only charming rural scenes but also offering glimpses into the lives of the Deep South’s residents.

His work has been on view at Wiregrass exhibitions at the Wiregrass Museum of Art, The Nature Gallery, and the Rudd Gallery. Additionally, his paintings have been displayed at the Houston-Love Memorial Library and various local businesses. Notably, he completed a mural of George Washington Carver for the George Washington Carver Museum in Dothan, Alabama. His work is in many personal and public collections and has been featured in several publications.
